Frequently Asked Questions

Being a Shareholder: 17. Are there rules about guests?

Yes.  The number of people in each co-op is set by federal law because of its one-time ownership by the federal government.  1 resident MUST be a stockholder.  There can be up to 2 people in a 1-bedroom residence, up to 4 people in a 2-bedroom residence, and up to 6 people in a 3 bedroom residence.  A guest being in your co-op cannot cause the number to exceed these limits, which can lead to your eviction.

While there is no strict definition of who is a "guest", anyone who stays with you for more than 30 days is presumed to be renting from you, which is strictly prohibited.  Each stockholder must complete an occupancy form at the office when a guest resides with you for more than 30 days.

The Homes, Inc. is a small community and residents are highly aware of each other's activities.  Residents know and care what goes on around them.
