The Cooperative Housing Idea : 4. How is cooperative housing different?

Cooperative housing is different from both home ownership and apartment rental.  There are some elements of each in common.

Everyone who lives in The Homes, Inc. is a part-owner of the corporate subdivision.  As such, like home ownership, there is more reason to become involved in the life of the neighborhood.

Like apartment rental, there are a list of rules all shareholders must follow.  These were designed to protect each shareholder's investment.

Before deciding to buy a share of stock in The Homes, Inc., familiarize yourself with these rules.  Decide whether you can live with them.  (See Rules and Regulations)

There must ALWAYS be at least 1 stockholder who lives in each unit.
